News Flash! Market Location

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Aloha Kakou:

Our next Market Day, on Saturday October 3rd, will be at St. Matthew’s Church, the same place it has been for the past 2 markets.

We just got permission to use Waimanalo School’s front lawn, under the big banyan tree!  A big mahalo to Vice-Principal Keoni Wilhelm and his staff for giving us this opportunity.  Unfortunately, we cannot use that space for this upcoming Market Day.  Therefore, we will be located at Waimanalo School starting October 17th and subsequent market days until the end of the year.

Please call (224-9193) or email kehau@waimanalomarket.com if you need directions to St. Matthew’s Church.

A hui hou, Kehau

Some of you may remember Mr. Okamoto as he taught at Kailua High School since 1960.  He is presently retired and volunteering at Olomana School.  He is a very interesting man and eager to share his talents.  Please click here to learn more about Mr. OkamotoMatsuo Okamoto

The Waimanalo Research Station Field Day has grown from the popular Waimanalo Corn Field Day, which was founded by Dr. James Brewbker.  he originally created the event to showcase new corn hybrids that were bred to combat maize mosaic virus.   Brewbaker also co-founded Hawai’i’s seed corn industry in 1966.

The 128-acre Waimanalo Research Station is one of 22 active research field facilities statewide managed by CTAHR.  In addtion to corn, many other vegetables such as tomato, and eggplant varieties have been bred at the station.  Seeds from CTAHR’s vegetable breeding research are available through the college’s Seed Lab.

Mahalo Nui Loa to all of you that came out to the market this past Saturday.  Again, we sold out of most every item and we served a wide range of customers.  We want to say a special mahalo to all of our repeat customers who come back again and again to share in the fresh quality of our products as well as the great prices!

It is important to note that your on-line orders must be placed before midnight on the Wednesday before ‘Market Day’.  For this coming ‘Market Day’ that means placing your order by 12:00 midnight on Wednesday, September 30 to be picked up on October 3rd. That gives us enough time to order and pick-up your items and have them ready for you to pick-up on Saturday.  Your kokua is greatly appreciated.

We are currently looking for another venue where we can set-up our market.  St. Matthew’s Church has been very gracious in offering their yard and we are thankful for their generosity - but we don’t want to overstay our welcome.  We are talking with the Vice-Principal at Waimanalo School and hopefully we’ll be able to set up there for a short time.   We will advise you where our next market will be so please check this website.

If you have not visted our market please check it out!  Our produce comes to you direct from the farmers, the fish is fresh, the poi is made that morning and the service is friendly.  We want your shopping experience to be a delight and we do our best to make it that way!

For those of you who would like to share comments, please do so through this website.

Mahalo Nui,

The Volunteers Staff of Waimanalo Market
