     Are you tired of being part of survey after survey and strategic planning sessions that lead to nowhere?  Better yet, what about writing grants or applying for business loans that don’t get funded; there goes that dream!  It’s time we take control of our destiny and dictate our future.

     This campaign is about economic development for Waimanalo.  It’s about community building so we can live and work in a community we all can be proud of.  Let us be known as a self-help community that determined its own destiny.

     Be part of this vision; let your voice be heard.  We are asking you to invest in your community’s future.  Our children will own that future, therefore, we encourage you to invest for your children, your grandchildren and the Waimanalo residents to come.  We want this community to have the distinct advantage of offering its residents the opportunity to help each other and thrive.   E alu like mai kakou a e kulia i ka nu’u.

     If you are with us so far, here is a concept to consider:  “A co-operative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise.” (Cooperation Works, September 2007)

     We need a building where we can have a credit union, where our farmers can sell their local produce and our residents can sell their locally made products; perhaps a bakery, a certified kitchen, office space, businesses – or a meeting place where we can watch the world go by while having a cup of coffee!
